The Story
It was Spring of 2005. Roma sat in her high school cafeteria with Patrick (now Best Man), watching Tony practice his dance for the school talent show. He wore a “Vote for Pedro” t-shirt and puffy snow boots. Patrick gave Tony pointers on his performance, as nervous Roma smiled shyly at the scrawny teenager dancing in front of her. The two became fast friends, neither knowing what the next 10 years would bring.
They hung out regularly, often at Starbucks or in the Bose basement watching movies with a group of friends. Tony started college at IUPUI, Roma finished high school. Scattered encounters turned into weekly encounters. Group activities dwindled down to just the two of them. In November of 2006, the couple stumbled into their first date at the Downtown Indianapolis tree-lighting ceremony, where crowds of people literally forced them together.
Tony and Roma endured six years of a long distance relationship. He established his career in Indianapolis, while she completed undergrad and started medical school elsewhere in the state. Although difficult, they always knew the distance would be temporary. Eventually, Roma moved back to Indy to finish med school.
Tony proposed on January 16, 2014 at Mesh on Mass, Roma’s favorite restaurant. He planned the ultimate engagement surprise with a private dinner followed by celebrations with friends and family. The past year and a half has been filled with lots of wedding planning and anticipation for the year of new beginnings ahead!
